Happy Halloween - Shadowscapes

I actually got a holiday piece done before the holiday! ::everyone dies of shock::

So here's the Halloween picture for my manga for this year. It's Kasseilia, Lieya, and Rriha, three of the girls in my manga, dressed up for Halloween. And because I have you as a captive audience (mwahahah!), I'm going to explain the whyfors of their costumes.

First, Kasseilia, dressed up as Death. I figured either this or a witch would suit my sorceress whose associated element was death. Once I'd decided on Lieya's costume, I figured Death worked best for Kass, so I dressed her up as such. Yes, the scythe blade is deliberately that red-brown color.

Next, Lieya. I dressed her up as a devil last year (in a picture that was never colored), so I wanted to do something else this year. Since I ended up leaving out all the other characters (too tedious to do them all), I decided Lieya would work as an angel, especially since her associated element is spirit (life). Of course, since she's the manga's resident unintentional-skank, I had to make her costume slightly less angelic and slightly more skanky. And purple themed, of course, since that's her theme color (purple and white). And once again, I managed to make her skin look mightily convincing.

Last but not least, Rriha. I wanted something fairly on the neutral side of alignments (since I have the extremes of Death and an angel in the other two), and since Rriha's the thief of the party, I decided a pirate would be fitting. That, and I didn't jump in on the Pirates of the Caribbean bandwagon during the summer, so it was high time I drew a pirate anyway. I like her costume.

The brush of the moon in the background was made from a photograph, so yes that's a real moon there. The bats and the pumpkins were taken from generic Halloween clipart.

And since I wasn't too pleased with how Kass and Lieya looked in this piece, I made another version with just Rriha from this lineart (yay for the eraser tool). Once I add a suitable background to it, I'll upload it.

TD: mechanical pencil and Staedtler Pigment Liner pens (various sizes .7 - .05) on sketchbook paper; PSP7 and optical mouse; Halloween clipart. Took approximately 1 hour to draw and ink, 6 or 7 hours to cg.
